This is a destination where you can enjoy a bit of everything, from outdoor pursuits to great artisanship and delicious cuisine. Discover everything you can see and do in the town in this post. What to see in AgostAgost is a great destination if you love being in the great outdoors. Whether you’re a walker or a cyclist (or both), you’ll find plenty of trails and pathways for you to explore. One of the best known is perhaps Vía Verde del Maigmó, a greenway that follows the former railway tracks. Hop on your bike and be taken on a journey along viaducts, through tunnels and scenery that changes from the white, arid land of Agost to the lush and leafy woods and pine forests of Sierra del Maigmó. Agost has a long tradition of white clay ceramics and is famed, especially, for producing botijos, round containers traditionally used to store water. The work of Museo de Alfarería (the ceramic museum) and initiatives such as “the piece of the year” have helped put Agost on the map and the destination today proudly boasts a reputation of excellence for its ceramics. Some of Agost’s skilled ceramists open the doors of their workshops to visitors and others offer experiences in which you can sit behind the potter’s wheel to shape your own piece. You will also discover exactly why the botijos keep the water so cool. While you’re in the town, we also recommend visiting the chapel sitting on the hilltop to breathe in the panoramic views. If you can, try to plan your trip to Agost for the month of October so you can take part in Feria artesanal y gastronómica, a festival celebrating artisanship and gastronomy, where you can savour some of the very best local products.
