Cueva Susan in Los Carriones

This is a superb, spacious “double” cave house, ready to move in. It is in a quiet location, south facing with nice country views. The cave has a large front patio with a carport, 2 living rooms, 1 kitchen with potential for a 2nd kitchen, 3-4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The cave house is pure cave (no outbuild), so it provides continuous coolness in hot weather.

The property is on a quiet cul de sac with very few neighbours. The traditional villages Castilléjar and Benamaurel are under 10 minutes drive. There is a beautiful, huge community summer swimming pool, a 5 minute drive.

The patio is large, fully tiled, with sunny and shaded sitting areas. The front entrance is through the carport. A semi-enclosed area has been prepared for an above-ground pool. The patio is edged with ornamental cypress and other shrubs.

This property is actually two caves in one, connected by a central hall. The two sides of the caves are separated by three metres of cave wall, which you can see when using the corridor between the two. They could be fully separated, with a second front door added.

The entrance is through the right side. The front salon is currently used as an entrance foyer and opens to the corridor of the first cave. Then there is a bar/utility room with a window to the salon that could be made into a kitchen. Next is a full bathroom equipped with extractor fans. The next room is a double bedroom currently used for storage. At the end of the corridor is another double bedroom with a large built-in wardrobe, nicely decorated with flat stones inlaid into the lower part of the wall. Mid-way down the corridor you can pass through the hall to the other side of the cave.

Crossing to the second cave you arrive in the 2nd corridor. At the front is a vast salon/dining with windows onto the patio. The salon has lots of natural light, a spot dug out for the TV and a log burner inserted into a corner, decorated with inlaid stone. Down the corridor is a full bathroom equipped with an extractor fan and a double bedroom with a built-in wardrobe.

The kitchen is at the back of the salon/dining room, separated by a charming rustic bar with roof tiles feature. The front of the bar is decorated with the characteristic inlaid stone. The kitchen is beautifully built, fully equipped and has lots of cupboards.

The house is impeccably maintained. It is furnished with quality wood items that are negotiable.

Cueva Susan is located in the village of Castilléjar. Castilléjar is a traditional cave village surrounded by lush farmland, situated across the valley from the beautiful and dramatic Badlands. Castilléjar has basic shops, restaurants, banks and a weekly market. The larger villages of Huéscar and Benamaurel are 10-20 minutes away, respectively, with more amenities and services. The city of Baza is a 30 minutes drive with large supermarkets and the regional hospital. Near Castilléjar there is a beautiful community summer swimming pool and several mountain ranges, great for hiking and mountain biking. Turquoise lakes and the Lake Negratin hot springs spa are within 35-40 minutes.
