Cortijo El Ratón en Campo Cebas (Castril)

This is a traditional Spanish-style cortijo in Campo Cebas, a tiny hamlet of the stunning village of Castril. The property is surrounded by farmland with relaxing, pastoral views of the countryside. The property has two attached houses. In total there are 2 living rooms, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, one full kitchen, a garage/summer kitchen and a large unfinished loft. The rooms are spacious.

The access road is good. The area is very quiet as the road becomes a dirt track just past the property so there is little passage. The closest neighbor is about 100m. There is a bar-restaurant down the road 150 m away.

The house sits in the middle of 10.000m2 of farmland that has not been cultivated in recent years. In front of the house, 3 grape vines that produce grapes for wine. The land has about 200 almond trees. There are some fruit trees including a large walnut tree. There is a hand built well that is fed from an underground mountain source. The well has not been used in some time. There is also a 500L water deposit.

The main house is a well-built and carefully finished 2-story house in a refined traditional Spanish style, with terrazzo floors and a second story loft. The ground floor has a central hall, 2 bedrooms, 2 living rooms and a bathroom.

The smaller house is a more rustic 1-story house with the kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a garage with a summer kitchen and utility room.

You could easily separate the two houses by changing the front living room of the main house into a spacious kitchen.

The main entrance takes you into the central hallway of the main house, with a bedroom to the left and a sunny living room to the right. Straight back from through the hallway, you pass through an archway to the back rooms. To the left is a sitting room, straight ahead is a bathroom with a small tub, and to the right is a large 2-bed bedroom. This house is carefully finished and maintained.

Through the front living room you enter the spacious country kitchen of the smaller house. There is a fireplace that houses a large wood burner with a bread oven. A wide kitchen door leads to the track in front of the house. At the back of the kitchen, to the right is a double bedroom with a storage room/pantry. Straight back from the kitchen is a bathroom with a large shower, a roomy bedroom with two full size beds, and a utility room/garage/summer kitchen with a fireplace and slanted wood beam roof. This house is also well maintained.

At the back of the house, a ramp leads up to the 2nd story which is an unfinished loft space with wonderful views of the countryside. This floor could be made into a spacious independent apartment or workshop.

This cortijo is a 15 minute drive to the beautiful village of Castril with basic shops, restaurants, bars, and a weekly market. The larger village Pozo Alcón is a 15-20 minute drive, with more amenities and a 24 hr health centre. The city of Baza is 45 minutes drive, with the large supermarkets and the regional hospital. Granada is 1hr 40 min away. There are two lakes in the area, the Embalse de Portillo and the pristine Lake Bolera.
